Do I Need a New Seawall?
Most seawalls around the Tampa Bay area have reached or exceeded their life expectancy of 50 years. While it may not seem like your seawall is on the verge of failure, it is a known fact that many are severely deteriorated and are structurally weak beyond simple repairs. Below are some questions to ask yourself about your seawall.

  • Does my seawall have any horizontal cracks/deteriorating slabs?
  • Are my slabs leaning inward or outward?
  • Do I have any large gaps between my slab joints, or a lack of slab penetration into the berm leading to landward soil erosion?
  • Are rust stains visible in either the slabs or the cap?
  • Do I have spalling of the cap (missing chunks)?
  • Is my cap severely cracking, exposing rebar?
  • Are tie-rods visible landward of my seawall?
  • Are my secondary tie-rod plate washers & nuts rusting/breaking away from the slabs?
  • Is my stress beam failing?

If you answered yes to any of these questions it may be time to have your seawall inspected by a professional.

Having your seawall properly maintained or replaced if necessary can help you avoid disastrous costs if your seawall was to fail and collapse..

Below are some images of seawalls on the verge of failing, or consequently, have already failed.
Seawall Repair
Sometimes all a seawall needs is a little TLC. Depending on the condition of your seawall, a repair may be the best option if seawall replacemt isn't in the budget. Usually alternatives such as rip rap, secondary tiebacks, replacing cap and anchors, installing a beam and anchor system, or grouting the joints are just some examples of seawall repairs that may help to prolong the life of a seawall.

Today's seawalls require the most advanced products and state-of-the-art materials on the market. Seawall From Start to Finish
A typical residential seawall (approximately 80' feet) should take anywhere from 8-10 working days depending on the conditions of the property and the existing seawall (if any). Below is a photo gallery of a seawall from start to finish. Please note that this seawall may not be typical of all seawall installations.
